Love was truly in the air at this year’s annual Back 2 School Block Party, held in memory of Deputy Harold Morrison. The event was filled with food, games, education, and endless fun for all who attended. The Sheriff’s Foundation of Broward County (SFBC) was proud to take part in the many activities that made this day so special.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to the many sponsors, whose generosity makes this important and much-appreciated event possible year after year.
Deputy Harold Morrison began this event in 2009, funding it from his own pocket and starting with just 20 backpacks. As a dedicated and compassionate member of the Broward Sheriff’s Office, Deputy Morrison was deeply committed to serving his community.
SFBC board member John DiPrato has been a key supporter, contributing his time and resources almost from the start. He became fast friends with Deputy Morrison and served as his “right-hand man” for this event, as well as for Deputy Morrison’s other charitable endeavor, the Police Athletic League (PAL), for over 15 years. Mr. DiPrato remains committed to keeping Deputy Morrison’s compassionate spirit alive, stating that he was “a good, kind man who loved his community and was devoted to helping at-risk youth.” In a generous gesture, Mr. DiPrato matched the SFBC’s $5,000 donation to support this much-needed cause.
Mr. DiPrato also partners with supportive board members such as JM Family (Toyota of South Florida), who helped organize the volunteers responsible for filling over 4,000 backpacks that were given away at the event. Together, they arranged fun activities, food, and music, bringing the community together in a truly joyful celebration.
We are incredibly grateful to Mr. DiPrato and all of our generous sponsors for making this day a reality.
The students in attendance received backpacks of their choice, filled to the brim with all the supplies they would need to start the school year. It is clear that Deputy Morrison’s efforts have left a lasting legacy in the community he cared so deeply about.
