Regional Domestic Security Task Forces were created by the Florida Legislature (Florida Statute 943.0312) after the terror attacks of 9/11. In 2002, the Sheriff’s Foundation of Broward County (SFBC) received a $2 million federal award to fund Region 7 of the Regional Domestic Security Task Force. The Sheriff’s Foundation is tasked to oversee the expenditure of funds specifically donated for use by the domestic security task force pursuant to Florida Statute Section 943.0312. Over the years, the Sheriff’s Foundation has funded over $700,000.00 in initiatives and new equipment in furtherance of the statutory mission.

Domestic Security Task Force Fund: This fund is restricted for funding domestic security projects as requested by Region 7 Domestic Security Task Force Committee and approved by the Sheriff’s Foundation of Broward County. Annual Conference Domestic Counter Terrorism: Every year, SFBC funds a counter terrorism conference for the Intelligence Unit of Region 7 of the Domestic Security Task Force. These conferences are an essential step in the coordination of counter intelligence resources for the prevention of, and effective response to terrorist acts in South Florida.
