On May 5th, 1984, President Ronald Reagan signed Proclamation 5187 creating “National Correctional Officers Week”. Since then the first full week in May has been marked to recognize and to honor the work of Correctional Officers and Correctional Personnel Nationwide. The Sheriff’s Foundation of Broward County is proud to recognize the service of BSO Department of Detention by sponsoring a bowling tournament and talent show competition during their week of recognition. In 2016, the BSO Department of Detention had a friendly competition with the Miami-Dade Department of Corrections and BSO’s teams prevailed in both the bowling competition and the talent show. Way to go BSO!
Take time this first week in May to thank the many men and women who work in jails, prisons and community corrections.
